How SAMPRB was born
April 9, 2009I once wrote a post… and it went a little something like this.
“A little story – A co-worker was meeting a fellow Twitterer for real-time lunch. I was sad I couldn’t join them so I tweeted that I may just crash their next lunch date…. Actually, I’ll just let Twitter do the talkin’”
SAMPRB is the epitome of one of the many things that social media tools like Twitter can do for communities – namely, help build bridges, make connections and foster communication and collaboration. The SAMPRB organizers realized that the media/PR/business niche is one that has become aware of the new tools of social media and online communication and that its members could particularly benefit from getting to know what their peers and counterparts are doing on Twitter and other social networks to build their brands and businesses.
What followed was a tweetup.
Tweetups are informal gatherings meant to get fellow Twitterers to meet the people behind their followers’ avatars / usernames. They are a great opportunity to pick the brains of social media and Twitter experts as well as brainstorm with fellow beginners.
The SAMPRB tweetup took place for the first time on March 17, 2009 and will be taking place again towards the end of every month (we’ll keep you posted!) to make the event a regular meeting of the minds.
We hope to see you every month we welcome your suggestions. After all, this tweetup is OURS. What becomes of it will be the product of collaborative work.
Join the official Google group, where you will find helpful links and information, and to comment on posts to keep the conversation going.
